چکیده

The experimental results on DDX (double differential neutron production cross section data), TTY (thick target neutron production yield data), heavy-ion produced neutron transport data, and spallation products production cross section data taken at Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator (HIMAC), National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS), Japan, are presented for heavy ions of He to Xe in the energy range of 100 MeV/nucleon to 800 MeV/nucleon. In addition to the HIMAC results, the following experimental results are presented: 1) neutron yields and shielding data taken recently at heavy ion accelerator of Gesellschaft fuer Schwerionenforschung (GSI), Germany; 2) the neutron production data in the forward direction by 200 to 400 MeV protons measured at cyclotron facility, Research Center for Nuclear Physics (RCNP), Osaka University; 3) some deep penetration shielding experiments using high energy proton accelerators. These experimental results are compared with several Monte Carlo calculations.

Assessment and requirements of nuclear reaction databases for GCR transport in the atmosphere and structures.

The transport properties of galactic cosmic rays (GCR) in the atmosphere, material structures, and human body (self-shielding) are of interest in risk assessment for supersonic and subsonic aircraft and for space travel in low-Earth orbit and on interplanetary missions. Nuclear reactions, such as knockout and fragmentation, present large modifications of particle type and energies of the galact...

Description of light ion production cross sections and fluxes on the Mars surface using the QMSFRG model.

The atmosphere of Mars significantly attenuates the heavy ion component of the primary galactic cosmic rays (GCR), however, increases the fluence of secondary light ions (neutrons, and hydrogen and helium isotopes) because of particle production processes. We describe results of the quantum multiple scattering fragmentation (QMSFRG) model for the production of light nuclei through the distinct ...

Economic Sanctions on Iran and Nuclear Medicine

"It is not a wise choice!", this was the reaction of my father when I applied for nuclear medicine residency program 26 years ago. The old retired officer continued that hi-tech nuclear medicine is dependent on multiple advanced sections that may not be easily available especially in the developing countries. Now he is not alive to see that political misconducts have added fuel to the fire. Glo...

Strangeness production in heavy ion reactions at intermediate energies

Kaon production, in particular K production in heavy ion collisions at intermediate energies is discussed. Main emphasis is put on the question if subthreshold K production can serve as a suitable tool to test the high density phase of such reactions and to deliver information on the high density behavior of the nuclear equation of state. It is shown that the K excitation function in heavy (Au ...

Particle-particle Correlations and the Space-time Structure of Heavy Ion Collisions

The present status of the use of two-particle intensity interferometry as a diagnostic tool to study the space-time dynamics of intermediate energy heavy ion collisions is examined. Calculations for the two-proton and two-pion correlation functions are presented and compared to experiment. The calculations are based on the nuclear Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck transport theory.
